On Tuesday varsity officials said, that a Singapore company has donated $10million to build the central library in the newly revived Nalanda International University.

According to the sources, team of five-members of a Singapore-based RSP Construction Company has also visited to the university site in connection with the construction of the proposed library said Vice Chancellor Gopa Sabharwal.

Universities new campus would be built in Nalanda district’s Rajgir city and the place allotted for the university campus is spread all over 446 acres.

VC also said that the library’s design will be made by the RSP Company and the Ahmedabad-based Vastushilp Consultant.
The former Singapore foreign minister George Yeo is the new Chancellor for the university.

On Monday, tripartite MoU was signed in Rajgir by the RSP Company, Vastushilp Consultant and Nalanda University for the design and construction of the library, said Shabharwal.

Shabharwal also said that the construction of the new campus would be started by this year’s-end.

The new campus is 12Km from the site where the original Nalanda University, an international centre for learning in ancient times was once stood.

According to sources, it was razed by an invading army led by Bakhtiyar Khilji a general of Qutbuddin Aibak in the 12th century.

This university was basically established in the 5th century during the reign of the Gupta dynasty.

The University officials also revealed that, the entire university campus would be built by 2020 and the central government has also sanctioned Rs. 2,700 crore for the university.
