With the most favorable festival being just a day far from us, wishes to all the Ganesh devotees- Ganpati Bappa Morya, Mangalmurti Morya.

Ganesh Chaturthi is a festival that marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, though it is known that he was born in the Magh month (Jan-Feb) which is known as Sankashti Chaturthi and if it falls on a Tuesday then it is known as Angarki Chaturthi, this Ganesh Chaturthi was the birth of Lord Ganesha when he got the elephant head and became the Gajanana, this festival is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi. And the festival is celebrated in the month of Bhadra which is August – September according to the Hindu calendar.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2015 which would be celebrated tomorrow with the arrival of Lord Ganesha in every heart, as he is a symbol of good fortune, wisdom, prosperity and wealth. The flare of this festival could be seen in many states, especially in Maharashtra the significance is seen at large.

According to the history, we all know the story of Lord Shiva severed the head of Ganesha then Lord Shiva promising to bring Ganesh back to life. And then all they could find was an elephant’s head. And this is how the Gajanana was born.

Every year it is seen those weeks before the Ganesh Chaturthi, excitement for the festival. Clay models of Ganesh varying in sizes and poses are prepared. These idols or statutes are placed in pandals, homes, localities etc. for certain days. Now we can also see many groups which are also known as “mandals” participating in various competition. And also having art forms performing and a lot of community activities are seen during these days. Not just arts but the main attraction could be food also and it is famous dish which is made for Lord Ganesh which is the Modak a dumpling of rice or flour stuffed with grated jaggery, coconut and dry fruits.

Madhyahna- is a time during which Lord Ganesha was born, the time duration between sunrise to sunset in which Madhyahna is midday, according to the Hindu time-keeping (sunrise to sunset consist of five equal parts in which this time is divided those are Pratahkala, Sangava, Madhyahna, Aparahna and Sayankal).

Ganpati Sthapana and Ganpati Puja- during the time of Madhyahna the idol of Lord Ganesh is placed (Sthapana) and then it has been worshipped and prayed (Puja) according to the time of Madhyahna.

Pranapratishhtha- a ritual that involves chanting of mantras by the priest.

Shhodashopachara- a ritual in which prayers are offered in 16 different ways to Lord Ganesha.

Uttarpuja- a ritual again which gives farewell to Lord Ganesha.

Ganpati Visarjan- is the last ritual in which the statute is immersed in water.

Ganesh Chaturthi was started by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as a public event to promote traditions and nationalism. Later on in the late 19th century, Bal Gangadhar Tilak revitalized the festival and took the message of freedom struggle to all Indians.

This festival gives a scope for all religion to interact and know each other. Celebrating is not just the main objective but celebrating and enjoying the festival together is seen nowadays. And which is why this festival was started.
