World No.3 Andy Murray has been knocked out of the US Open in the fourth round at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Monday.

South African 15th seed Kevin Anderson beat Andy Murray with 7-6(5) 6-3 6-7(2) 7-6(0) to reach his first grand slam quarter-final.

Anderson in past had lost seven times before making it to his first quarter final.

In past 19 major tournaments, it is the first time that Murray has been knocked out before making it into the quarterfinal round.

“I was trying to use the energy of the crowd to push myself back into the game,” said Murray after the match.

“To get into the first grand slam quarter round, definitely means a lot to me. I played one of the best games of my career that to against games best returners. I wish I could play every tiebreak like that,” said Kevin Anderson.

Kevin Anderson will face Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland in the quarterfinals of US Open 2015.

Stan Wawrinka eliminated American Donald Young to reach the quarterfinal round.
