Roads between Manali in Himachal Pradesh and Leh in Jammu and Kashmir were temporarily shut down due to the snowfall on Monday.

General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF), the wing of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) which maintains the crucial highways of the country said, “The traffic between Manali and Leh was closed for vehicles after the snowfall.”

Officials said that work is in process to reopen the highway as it’s important to supply armed forces and wares forward to Ladakh. The highway paves way through Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft), Baralacha Pass (16,020 ft), Lachlungla Pass (16,620 ft) and Tanglangla (17,480 ft).

Due to heavy snowfall overnight, the Kunzum Pass (15,060 ft) has also been affected.

The heavy snowfall also increased the number of backpackers especially foreigners who are opting for pastoral settings in Himalayas for their adventurous trip.
