December 8, 2015 has been the date finalized by the leaders of power sector national federations to hold a strike against the proposed Electricity Amendment Bill, 2014.

The bill undergoes an amendment to segregate the power distribution network from electricity supply business. Employees of power sector want no amendments in the bill, which is also placed as an agenda in the Lok Sabha for winter the session.

Talking about the amendment All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) chairman Shailendra Dubey said, “The amendments to the electricity bill were not based on ground realities, but were meant only to serve the interests of the private sector, provoking bankruptcy among state run power utilities.”

Power employees, engineers and contract workers are expected to be involved in this strike.
