The heavy rains in the reservoir’s catchment area in Kerala led water in Mullaperiyar dam to edge towards the permissible limit of 142 ft on Monday noon.

While, Mullaperiyar dam is located near Idukki district but controlled by Tamil Nadu increased the intake of water from dam to 1,800 cubic feet per second after Kerala notify the water level going up.

However, Kerala has been always against to raise water level in the dam. But, after a long legal fight between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Supreme Court allowed Tamil Nadu to increase the water level up to 142ft.

While, Idduki District’s collector V Ratheeshan said that “People residing downstream need not to be worry we have made all the arrangements to relocate them to safe places”.
